Torpoint had done very well in the Beckley Cup this year and this display was no exception. Torpoint are top of Division 4 at the moment but with all their league games finished, could be overhauled by Liskeard.
The match got off to a good start for Builders. The Whitford road courts are very different from most other courts and take a bit of getting used to. All three of Torpoints pairs lost the first end but Joe & Julie, Paul & Sam came back to take the second end albeit with a closer score. Laurie and Leslie lost both ends but were a lot closer with the points.
The evening continued with all the games being very close but Builders showed their higher league status and home court advantage by finishing the evening 56 points in front. Both sides thought that it was going to be a close call when the handycap envelope was opened but that did not prove to be the case.
The handycap committee had decided that the game was played off scratch so Builders won by 56 points. Builders are bottom of Division 3 but this only showed the difference in the divisions and if they do come down, I am sure on this form they will bounce straight back up.
Well done to both teams for producing a well fought contest that was really good to watch!
