TORPOINT WIN THE BECKLEY CUP!
Torpoint had done well this season in reaching the final of the Beckley cup. The match was played in the old Torpoint hall and was a all Cornish final this year as Liskeard was the other team that got through.
The Beckley cup is a handicapped event so that a team in Division 1 can play a team in Division 3 and the handicap is designed to even things up. In this case Liskeard is Division 1 whilst Torpoint is Division 3. The handicap is announced at the end of the match so every point is vital.
The match was played in a good spirit with some good rallies but Liskeards superiority showed! They were winning all the games but was Torpoint getting enough points when the handicap was added to win.
In the last match of the evening, the two Torpoint Sam’s nearly took the first end and only lost it 21 - 20. The second end was game 12 which was still pretty good.
At the end of the night the scores were 378 - 168. When the envelope was opened, Torpoint were given +216. Which meant Torpoint won by 6 aces. How close was that! The last game just did it for Torpoint! The Trophy was presented by the Torpoint Mayor who watched the match.
